Mr. Purviance serves as a Subject Matter Expert within the Supervision Regulation and Credit Division at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In this function, Mr. Purviance is primarily responsible for conducting an ongoing assessment of risks associated with residential real estate markets and the potential impacts they may pose to the financial system. This includes analyzing conditions within individual markets as well as the impacts of external forces on real estate. In addition, Mr. Purviance is responsible for developing real estate related analytical reports and tools utilized internally throughout the Federal Reserve System to aid in risk surveillance and banking supervision as well as external tools such as the Home Ownership Affordability Monitor (HOAM). Mr. Purviance also frequently engages in public outreach on the behalf of the Federal Reserve by speaking at public conferences and events as well as contributing commentary to the Beige Book, a publication produced by the Federal Reserve on economic conditions by district.

Prior to joining the Federal Reserve, Mr. Purviance served as the President of Market Advisory Services, LLC, a research and consulting firm that provides analytics for developers, homebuilders, and lenders to assist in property valuations and to help assess the viability of submarkets for new development. Mr. Purviance also previously served as a Senior Consultant at Metrostudy, a residential real estate research company, where he was responsible for the firm’s consulting operations in the Atlanta region.

Mr. Purviance received his B.A. in Urban Planning from Morehouse College and his Masters in City and Regional Planning for Georgia Tech.

Dr. Wall, UTC Director and Chief Economist, served at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, from 2011 to 2023 as a professor of economics, founding director of the Hammond Institute for Free Enterprise, and director of the Center for Applied Economics. In addition, he has been a research fellow at the Show-Me Institute since 2011.

Prior to joining Lindenwood, he served as a vice president and regional economics adviser at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He also spent ten years in academia within the economics departments at West Virginia University and Birkbeck College, University of London.

His primary research fields have included theoretical and empirical trade, while his more recent focus has centered on modeling and estimating the macroeconomy through the interaction of regional and local economies.

A native of Upstate New York, he received his BA in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1984, and his MA and PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1986 and 1989, respectively.

Day 1: The Future of Real Estate and Shenanigans

Denise Beard Baker began her career with the State of Tennessee in 2015. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission.

Previously, Denise worked in the Tennessee Department of Transportation Highway Beautification Office, where she managed the Tennessee’s litter prevention campaign “Nobody Trashes Tennessee”, TDOT’s Litter Grant Program, and Adopt-A-Highway. In 2022, Denise was the recipient of the Tennessee Governor’s Excellence in Service Award which recognizes outstanding state employees.

Denise obtained an undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a master’s degree in public administration from Tennessee State University. Denise also earned a Certified Public Manager certification. Denise lives in Middle Tennessee with her husband and enjoys spending time with her seven nieces and nephews.

Anna D. Matlock: Anna D. Matlock serves as Associate General Counsel and Advisory Coordinator for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Office of Legal Counsel’s Division of Regulatory Boards (“TDCI”). Anna is a lifelong Nashvillian and graduate of Belmont University (2013) and the University of Tennessee College of Law (2016). At TDCI, Anna primarily provides advisory services for five (5) of Tennessee’s occupational licensing regulatory boards, including the Tennessee Real Estate Commission and Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission. Additionally, she is responsible for rulemaking, aiding in legislative duties, legal intern supervision, as well as complaint review, litigation, and enforcement.

Humberto is youngest of 4, originally born in Monterrey, Mexico, and resided with his family in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas until 2024, after which he relocated to Houston, TX.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and began his career in the real estate industry in 2017 at a local association in McAllen, TX, before joining the RPR® Industry Relations team.

Humberto is a strong advocate for real estate technology in his role at RPR®. He’s previously presented and showcased the newest RPR® features and upgrades, like the Next Gen Property Reports, Market Trends AI Scriptwriter, and most recently the all new AI-Powered CMA in the RPR® Mobile App.

He enjoys traveling with his partner and being an uncle to 7 nieces and nephews and human to Penny, his Dalmatian.

Bryan Greene is Vice President of Policy Advocacy at the National Association of REALTORS where he oversees all legislative and regulatory advocacy on behalf of the association’s 1.4 million members. Bryan joined NAR in November 2019, and spent his first year at NAR raising the association’s profile in Washington and nationwide on all fair-housing-related policy matters as NAR’s first Director of Fair Housing Policy.

Before joining NAR, Bryan served for ten years as the highest-ranking career official in HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), where he oversaw the policy direction and operational management of the 600-person office enforcing the nation’s housing anti-discrimination laws. Under Bryan’s leadership as FHEO General Deputy Assistant Secretary, HUD pursued large-scale, high-profile cases that addressed systemic discrimination and provided widespread relief. Bryan also managed HUD’s Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP) and HUD’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP), which together provide over $70 million to state and local government agencies and nonprofit organizations fighting discrimination in local communities.

Bryan has held other senior positions at HUD during his three decades at the agency, including a stint as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs in HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R), where he worked to reduce regulatory barriers to affordable housing.

Bryan was the 2007 recipient of the Presidential Rank Award, the highest federal honor bestowed upon federal senior executives for outstanding service. Bryan earned his degree in Government from Harvard University.

Charles Wood currently serves as President and CEO for the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce and previously served as the Chamber’s Vice President of Economic Development. Prior to joining the Chattanooga Chamber in 2012, Charles held economic development positions in chambers of commerce in Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama and worked in local government in College Station, Texas.

During his more than 25-year career in economic development Charles has led marketing, recruitment and expansion efforts resulting in thousands of jobs created by dozens of companies including Hewlett Packard, Mellon Financial, and Volkswagen.

Charles holds a master’s degree in economic development from the University of Southern Mississippi, completed Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma and holds the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) from the International Economic Development Council. Charles and his wife Angie have one grown son and live in downtown Chattanooga. In his spare time, he crews on sailboats, cooks Cajun food and can be found at his son’s coffee shop on the Northshore.

Charlie Lee, Associate General Counsel and Vice President, Association Legal Affairs, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, has more than fifteen (15) years of association law and governance experience.  His focus includes association and corporate governance and policy, multiple listing services, professional standards, not-for-profit taxation, cybersecurity, contracts, advertisement, and antitrust matters.  Charlie serves as legal staff to the MLS Policy and Issues Committee and Advisory Board, the REALTOR® Property Operations Committee, and as the NAR ARELLO Liaison.

He received his B.S. degree in Business Administration and Management of Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois Chicago Law School.   Charlie is admitted to the state bar of Illinois and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Asian American Bar Association.
