Bridging The Diversity Gap

Diversity is a hot topic that is often discussed as a business requirement rather than a way to provide meaningful customer service to a changing population. We will explore various characteristics that make a person unique, such as age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and educational background and how we can use the experiences of others to our benefit.

Diversity is not a black and white issue. When we bridge the diversity gap, it provides an opportunity for everyone to be heard, seen, recognized as individual. This is an opportunity for everyone to be heard, seen, and recognized as individuals. This is an opportunity to acknowledge out different experiences and how this differences become powerful force in decision making. This course is designed to be uncomfortable as we identify and recognize our biases and stereotypical behaviors.

Amelia Rose Earhart will be the keynote speaker at our Inspirational Breakfast, a ticketed event (8:00-9:15 am, Thursday, Sept. 16).

Amelia, namesake to the famed Amelia Mary Earhart who attempted to fly around the world in 1937, is the youngest woman to fly around the world in a single-engine aircraft. In 2014, Amelia flew a Pilatus PC12-NG 28,000 miles, crossing the equator six times, through fourteen countries to complete a circumnavigation of the globe. Her parents, sharing the Earhart surname, wanted their daughter to have a name that would inspire her to live a life of passion and adventure.

Amelia is the President of the Fly With Amelia Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants flight-training scholarships to young women, aged sixteen to eighteen. The Fly With Amelia Foundation also fosters aviation and aerospace opportunities for people of all ages through aviation-based educational STEM opportunities, in partnership with Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, CO.

Amelia has been a passionate aviatrix since her first flight lesson at the age of twenty-one, a seeker of all things adventurous and is an accomplished public speaker, spending the last 8 years working as a television news anchor, covering breaking news, traffic and weather in Denver and Los Angeles. Amelia was given the Amelia Earhart Pioneering Achievement Award in 2013 and in 2014 was named by the Jaycees as one of the “Top Ten Young Americans”.

Through One Community Real Estate®, Leigh continues her mission to support and develop REALTORS® who are both leaders and advocates in their own communities while still striving to serve buyers and sellers as their REALTOR® advocate. In the RPAC Hall of Fame x3 (high five if you know what that is). A wife. A mama. With three cats available for adoption. Runner, singer and pianist, who enjoys cooking, gardening and needlepoint (yes, I’m an old Southern woman). A child of God and a follower of Jesus. Trying to get life right, one mistake at a time.

Chris Gray (above left) and Chad Tillman (right) will lead the two-hour CE session “USDA Home Financing” (3:45-5:45 pm, Thursday, Sept. 16).

“USDA Home Financing”
An often overlooked and/or misunderstood mortgage program, USDA home financing offers qualified homebuyers many unique advantages. With a practical understanding of USDA mortgage guidelines—including borrower, income, and property eligibility—course participants will be prepared to recognize program opportunities related to purchase clients and property listings.

Chris Gray has two decades of experience in mortgage industry leadership. During that time Chris has led uniquely different mortgage operations for independent mortgage brokers, an FDIC bank, and presently a state-chartered credit union. This experience has provided him a unique perspective on the industry and its evolution. During his current post as Vice President of Mortgage, Leaders Credit Union has distinguished itself among the top 5% of credit unions nationally in first mortgage originations, as well as ranking #1 in secondary market loan originations among Tennessee credit unions.

Chad Tillman began his career in mortgage a decade ago as a likable nightmare of a first-time homebuyer. Putting his patient Realtor through 9-months of showings and lender (Chris Gray) through countless hours reviewing loan details, Chad found the transaction fascinating. Shortly thereafter, Chad left his career as a practicing attorney to join the industry and hasn’t looked back. In his present role as the Director of Mortgage Business Development for Leaders Credit Union, Chad has served as a key catalyst for the credit union’s rise to state and national recognition within the mortgage industry.

Karen Randolph will lead the CE session “Shut the Front Door” (11:30-12:30 Friday, Sept. 17).

“Shut the Front Door”
We’ve all been in a predicament on what to do next during a showing. Candles burning out of control, crockpot spewing dinner onto the counters, and the buyer’s children jumping on the beds are just a few of those awkward moments that can test our calling. Stop by for an action-packed hour as you hear some of the craziest complaints and unprofessionalism in today’s market. This content-based course highlights The Pathways to Professionalism and will attempt to have you knowing when to turn the lights off and when to leave them on.

Karen Randolph, Ph.D., ABR, AHWD, CRB, CRS, C2EX, ePRO, MASTER GRI, MRP, PSA, REAL, is the managing broker of one of the top performing firms in Tennessee. She is a seasoned veteran of 26 years in the most rewarding career of her life. Real estate is her calling, and she demonstrates her servitude as an active member of the REALTOR® family by relentless involvement in the local, state, and national associations. She has earned her Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Theology as she crested into her 50’s, proving she is a life-long learner. Karen is a member of the Centurion’s Honor Society, an award she earned as a top-producing agent for five of the last six years. She has received many accolades from NETAR and Tennessee REALTORS®, with her favorite being Outstanding Rookie of the Year…it makes her feel young. As a three-time cancer survivor, she walks with a limp, but she is still walking and praising with every step, even when the head was bald from chemo and the body sick from radiation. She has earned warrior status and holds the umbrella for those walking in the rain. Her feet have traveled foreign soil (Africa, Brazil, Honduras, Hungary, Mexico, and Nicaragua) as she performs humanitarian acts of kindness. In 2020, she was awarded TREEF’s Educator of Year honor, giving her the invitation to hit a bigger stage with Tennessee REALTORS®. Karen has the natural ability to make the most boring topic fun as she energetically delivers the message hidden in the lessons of experience.
