Commissioner and Cabinet Members Profiles

Update/Memo

The pace on the Hill started to quicken this week, with the House reconvening and making public their committee schedules. While House committees will begin to meet next week, those meetings are largely organizational and few bills will be considered. The House announced a bill submission deadline of Wednesday, February 6, kicking off a flurry of filings by members. The Senate’s deadline remains Thursday, February 7, and although the Senate was out of session, it was not out of the news. Friday, January 18 saw the swearing of Senator Rosalind Kurita, who was appointed to temporarily fill the seat of now-Congressman Mark Green in Senate District 22 until voters are able to choose a successor on April 23. Kuritas’s swearing in leaves just one senate seat vacant, the seat for Senate District 32. Thursday night, Paul Rose won the Republican primary election for that seat against three other contenders, meaning he will go on to face Democrat Eric Coleman in the March 12 general election. Senate committee organizational meetings will also begin next week.
