Update/Memo
Ramsey Farrar & Bates was delighted to welcome REALTORS® from across the state to Nashville for Tennessee REALTOR® Day on the Hill this past week. REALTORS® heard from Lt. Gov. Randy McNally; House Speaker Pro. Tem. Curtis Johnson; and Rep. Andrew Farmer, chairman of the House Civil Justice Committee, and had the unique opportunity to interact directly with their own state legislators. This event was an important way to show legislators from across Tennessee that REALTORS® are involved and dedicated to promoting priorities that benefit our sector and Tennessee’s economy. All in all, the day was a great success.
Last Monday, Governor Haslam gave his final State of the State address to a joint meeting of the General Assembly. As expected, Haslam stressed his achievements in financial management and education, both of which drew large cheers from the members of the General Assembly. He also pushed his new initiative to combat Tennessee’s opioid epidemic through a combination of prevention, treatment and law enforcement. House Speaker Beth Harwell and House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh were in attendance; both are among the candidates running to succeed Haslam this November.
Thursday, February 1 was the bill filing deadline in both houses of the legislature. As a result, no new legislation will be filed before the close of the 110th General Assembly. We will continue to track existing bills for the REALTORS® as they develop and are amended through the committee and floor process.
